Cakes and tortes from our own patisserie
We bake fresh every morning before opening: seasonal fruit cakes, cream tortes, cheesecake and tray bakes – by the slice in the café, to take away, or as a whole torte to order.
Today's selection
What's in the display counter every day
The selection changes because we decide the evening before what will be baked the next day: according to season, weather, and what was in demand the day before. We always have cream gateaux, a cheesecake and at least one fruit cake on hand.
Whatever the patisserie makes in the morning, we sell that same day — leftovers don't go into the fridge for the next day. We're happy to tell you over the phone which varieties we currently have in stock.
- Cream gateaux — thin sponge layers with whipped cream, fruit, nut nougat or chocolate in between. They stay light but cut more softly and taste best on the day they're made.
- Buttercream gateaux — German buttercream, meaning whipped butter with cooked vanilla custard. It holds firm decorations, keeps its shape, and can be cut into neat, even slices.
- Cheesecake and quark cake — made with quark from the dairy, baked on a shortcrust base or without one. The classic stays moist and is the variety we bake most often.
- Seasonal fruit cake — rhubarb in spring, berries in summer, plum and apple in autumn, topped with crumble or a layer of cake glaze.
- Sheet and yeast dough cakes — butter cake, crumble cake and plum cake from the baking sheet, made from a yeast dough that proves slowly in a cool place.
- Dry cakes — marble, lemon and nut cake, as well as nut corners. They keep longer and are great for taking home.
Our own patisserie
How a baking day works for us
Our patisserie is behind the café, not at a central location. Work happens in four stages, long before the first guests arrive for breakfast. If you've ever wondered why a cream gateau is sometimes sold out by 3pm, you'll find the answer in this process.
Ingredients and quality
How to spot good craftsmanship
We work with butter instead of margarine, real cream, and vanilla from the pod or as paste. We don't use ready-made cake mixes, cream stabilisers or baking release agents.
This has consequences you can taste and see: buttery doughs firm up as they cool, cream softens after a few hours, and fruit releases juice. This is exactly how you can tell a gateau was made that same morning.
- The cut shows clearly separated layers rather than a blurred mass.
- The cream has fine air bubbles and tastes of cream, not vanillin.
- The decoration sits slightly irregularly — a sign it was applied by hand.
- Fruit appears as a recognisable piece on or in the gateau, not as a uniform decorative slice.
- The base is moist enough to cut but doesn't crumble under the fork.

Take away or pre-order a whole cake
We're also happy to sell a whole cake from the counter while it's still intact — it's best to ask in the morning.
For reliable planning, place an order: we need seven days' notice for this, since the dough, fillings and decoration need to be fitted into the normal baking day. Diameters of 18, 22 and 26 centimetres are available, with two tiers by arrangement.
- 18 centimetres — the small size for about eight pieces, ideal for the family coffee table.
- 22 centimetres — the most popular choice, around twelve pieces, suitable for birthdays and smaller gatherings.
- 26 centimetres — around sixteen pieces for larger celebrations; with many guests, two different cakes are often better than one very large one.
- Two-tier by arrangement — here we clarify assembly, transport and pick-up time in advance, as cakes like these don't cope well with long journeys in warm weather.
What determines the price of a made-to-order cake: diameter, type of filling and the effort involved in decorating. A simple cream cake costs less than a cake with several fillings, marzipan or lettering. We'll give you a firm price in conversation before you order — there should be no surprises afterwards.
