Family celebrations at Café Nordlicht
Birthday, christening, confirmation, anniversary or funeral reception: we push the tables together, bake the cake in our own patisserie and bring coffee and cake right to your table.
Occasions
From christening to anniversary
Most of our celebrations last an afternoon: coffee, cake from our own patisserie and a table where everyone can sit together.
Birthdays
Milestone birthdays, children's birthday parties in the afternoon or a coffee table for the grandparents. We tailor the cake to the occasion.
Christening and confirmation
Straight from the church to the laid table: we place the platters in the middle, with fresh coffee and tea to follow.
Small-scale wedding
For the coffee table after the registry office. We make two-tier cakes by arrangement in our own patisserie.
Anniversaries
Golden wedding, work anniversary or club anniversary – with room for speeches, photos and a second slice of cake.
Funeral coffee
A quiet setting after the burial. We lay the table discreetly, serve quietly and clarify everything beforehand so you don't have to arrange anything.
Group breakfast
A shared breakfast to start the day. On weekdays until 11:30 am, on weekends until 1:00 pm.
How the request works
Four steps to a laid table
Between your request and the afternoon itself there are usually just two short conversations – one about the date, one about cake and tables.
- 1
Request with date and number of guests
You write to us via our enquiry form or call +49 30 23125101. What matters is your preferred date, time, number of guests and the occasion.
- 2
Confirmation of the date
We check whether the afternoon is free at the café and get back to you with a suggestion for a time slot and table arrangement. Celebrations take place within our opening hours, so until 6:00 pm.
- 3
Arranging cake and table
You choose between cake from the display case and an ordered cake. Ordered cakes need seven days' lead time; they come in 18, 22 and 26 centimetres, with two tiers by arrangement.

On the day of the celebration
The table stands ready, fully laid, when you arrive. We bring coffee and tea as needed, and on request we pre-cut the cake in the kitchen.

A table where everyone sits
We push the tables in the café together into a row so that no one sits at the edge. The window seats facing Hafenstraße remain the most sought-after – just tell us where the centre of the celebration should be.

The space for your group
How many seats we can put together depends on the day and the time. That's why we can only give you a concrete number of seats after checking the table plan.
It's common to have one long table made up of several pushed-together tables, or two separate groups if children and adults prefer to sit apart. Let us know the number of guests, your preferred date and the desired duration when you make your request — this will tell us what's possible on that day.
- Number of guests, including children and high chairs
- Preferred date with start and expected end time
- Occasion, so we can match table decoration and sequence of events accordingly
- One continuous table or several separate tables
- Your own decorations, flowers or candles you'd like to bring
- Intolerances and requests for no sugar or no nuts
Patisserie
Cake for the celebration
The baked goods for your celebration come from our own patisserie.
You have two options: an ordered cake as the centrepiece of the table, or a mixed selection of cakes from the daily offering, which we bring to the table sliced on cake stands. Both can be combined — the cake for cutting, plus two or three kinds of sheet cake for seconds.
Choosing a time
Which times work best
Celebrations with us take place during our regular opening hours, right in the middle of normal café operations. Monday is our closing day.
From experience, two time slots work best: late morning, while breakfast is still being served, and late afternoon from 4:30 pm, once coffee time is over. We serve breakfast Tuesday to Friday until 11:30 am, and on weekends until 1:00 pm.
- Breakfast round — start from opening time; please plan so that orders are taken before breakfast service ends.
- Afternoon coffee table — the classic setting for a birthday, christening or anniversary, with cake and pastries from the display case.
- Sunday round — we open at 10:00 am on Sundays; this day tends to get booked up earlier than weekdays.
- Last round — we close at 6:00 pm, so plan the end of your celebration with a little buffer beforehand.
Good to know
Arrangements and billing
We charge no room rental and don't work with flat rates per head. You're billed for what comes to the table: drinks, cake, breakfast, an ordered cake by size.
What your celebration ultimately costs therefore depends on the number of guests and on whether you're planning a coffee table or a breakfast gathering. How the prices are made up is explained on our pricing page.
- One bill or separate ones — let us know before serving, not only when it's time to pay; separate bills at a long table need advance notice.
- Cancellation or rescheduling — please get in touch as early as possible. We can no longer hold back a cake once it's already been started in the bakery, especially on short notice.
- Bringing your own food — outside cakes aren't permitted, as our own pastry kitchen takes care of that. You're welcome to bring your own table decorations and candles.
- Children — we have a limited number of high chairs, so please mention this when you make your request.
- Other guests in the café — the café stays open to other guests; we arrange your group so it can sit as much to itself as possible.
